MVK architects have been working on the refurbishment and restoration of the former kitchen wing at Townley Hall near Tullyallen in Co. Louth since 2012. Phase I of the project has recently been completed. This phase included the restoration of the stone facades, the installation of historically accurate replacement windows and the refurbishment of the interior.
Designed by Irish born architect, Francis Johnston, Townley Hall was built between 1794-1798. Said to be his masterpiece, it was his first major private commission and is now listed as a building of National Importance.
The wing had fallen into a ruinous condition in the 1960’s. The project to restore the facades and refurbish the interior for use as a multi-funcional community space has attracted LEADER grant funding under the Rural Development Scheme.
