This design is for a new house on a site overlooking the Canal, River Barrow and to the Co. Kildare countryside beyond. The house is on four levels terraced down the sloping the site in a series of connected internal and external spaces. Sustainable energy solutions were incorporated at an early stage in the design process. A condition of the brief was that views up to the house from the canal-side walk below be restricted while allowing open views outward to the countryside from the house. The terracing of the house and patios solved this requirement while at the same time gathering sunlight for passive solar gain.
