Extension and refurbishment

Location: Blackrock, Dublin

The house was enlarged in two directions - a two storey extension to the rear and a single storey kitchen/dining room to the side replacing an earlier addition. The design maintains the charm of the original Arts and Crafts style house. It preserves the setting of a beautiful mature silver birch adjacent to the corner, adding significant space, including a dramatic kitchen and dining area, utility and play rooms, WC, master-bedroom and en-suite. The centre of the house was opened up with a sky-lit double height entry space making the size of the entry appropriate to the enlarged house. Patios were designed around the house and the rear garden wall replaced with open railings to give a sense of space and new views to the rear rooms.
