Refurbishment of a protected structure
Location: Ballsbridge, Dublin
A three bay Victorian house in a terrace in Ballsbridge. The house had been extended previously in such a way that access and views to the garden were obscured. This design involved the removal of a conservatory and sheds around the original return to open up the interior of the house to light and views. The house was renovated entirely. New horizontal counter height windows and double doors were added to the kitchen and a new kitchen installed. The first floor level of the return was opened up to the landing bringing light into the centre of the house. The bathrooms were modernized and an ensuite sensitively added to the ground floor guest room. In essence, the rear rooms of the house were reconfigured to make it as elegant as the front rooms of the house and the house opened to the garden.
