Extension and refurbishment of a protected structure
One of a terrace of ten mill-workers houses in Lucan Village close to the Liffey. The project consisted of a two storey extension accommodating a kitchen and bedroom as well as internal refurbishment of the original house. A number of carefully detailed joinery pieces in the house add to the perception of space and open up the interior to the light. A secondary glazing element was designed to fit inside the existing original sash windows which solved the problem of traffic noise and thermal insulation while preserving the character of the historic fabric.
